Jenaiya A. Coleman, MA, CA is a Knoxville, Tennessee native that has been a resident of Atlanta, Georgia for over 15 years. She began taking dance lessons at the age of 9. However, it was not until middle school and losing close friends in a tragic car accident, that she realized dance would not only be a personal outlet but would also assist her in changing lives. After graduating high school in 2005, she attended Hampton University, in Hampton, Virginia with the hopes of obtaining her bachelor’s degree in journalism and communication. While attending Hampton, she was a part of the Majestic’s Dance Troupe and continued taking dance classes. After spending a year at the University, she made the decision to move back to Knoxville. In 2007, Jenaiya was asked to perform at her pastor’s anniversary service. She quickly accepted, although she had not danced in over a year. She chose to perform to Kirk Franklin’s “First Love.” As she performed that Sunday morning, the song resonated in her spirit and moved her to tears. The song reminded her of the love she had for dance and her faith in God. That day she made the decision to move to Atlanta.
Jenaiya quickly immersed herself in everything Atlanta had to offer. However, after 5 years of her move, she found herself at a dead-end job, divorced, and now a single mother. After experiencing years of depression and simply being tired of feeling sorry for herself, she made the choice to go to therapy and started Uncover Your Beauty dance classes. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, with a concentration in forensic science. She also adamantly chose to start a career in the criminal justice field. While working for the Department of Juvenile Justice, she assisted in recreating the Positive Behavior Intervention Support Program(PBIS). Her significant input earned the facility their highest auditing score since the program began. As a grievance officer, and while serving on the multidisciplinary team, she also discovered a passion for assisting individuals with their problems and providing them with solutions.
Uncover Your Beauty dance classes were affording her the opportunity to connect with people on an intimate level and share her passion for dance. However, after 5 years of teaching the classes, she decided it was time to change the direction of Uncover Your Beauty. She took a year off from the classes and went back to school for her master’s degree in human service counseling. While working as a victim witness advocate for the DeKalb County Solicitor General’s Office, she learned her purpose was to assist people during their healing process from the trauma they have experienced. As a survivor of molestation, childhood trauma, family trauma, addiction, rape, physical abuse, verbal abuse, and divorce, she knew she not only had the training but the experiences that many have gone through. Jenaiya knew the benefits of therapy from her personal experience and wanted to share her vision with the world. In December 2018, she completed a two-year master’s degree program at Liberty University, while working a full-time job, and raising her son as a single mother within 11 months. She was determined to take Uncover Your Beauty to the next level. In June 2019, Uncover Your Beauty: Dance Therapy was intentionally born. Having the opportunity to combine her purpose and passion has been the biggest blessing of her life. She specializes in healing trauma and focusing on becoming the best version of yourself. As a transformation healing counselor, she looks forward to meeting beautiful people and helping them to truly uncover their beauty.
